Unlike a round liner, the needles don't taper together but stay open. You get wider lines from the same needle count. Taper-wise you get the long version here, with fine control over every stroke. For traditional artists running coils, the longbar is the classic tool.

What are longbar needles?

Longbar needles, also called long bar needles or needles on bar, are tattoo needles soldered onto a long needle bar. Unlike cartridges there is no plastic housing: the needle goes straight into your coil machine via grip and tube. Many traditional artists swear by this setup because they can tune their coil and needle precisely to their style. Hand-poke artists like using longbars as well.
